Single Table Poker Tournaments (Sit and Go)

Single table poker tournaments are 'pick up' games, which is to say you can take a seat whenever you wish, and each tournament simply begins when the single table is full. Like all tournaments, the amount of chips you play with is fixed and has nothing to do with the buy-in amount, every player who pays the buy-in receives the same number of chips to play with.

Most online single-table tournaments have either 5, 6 or 10 seats to fill for each game. In 5 or 6 player tournaments, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place pay, or occasionally first and second place only. In 10 person games, the first three spots will usually pay.

No matter where you play single table tournaments, you can usually find a wide variety of buy-ins and players of all skill levels. I highly recommend single-player tournaments for new players especially, who may practice their game on a fixed buy-in, reducing potential losses (or at least knowing what they are beforehand). You can play as low as a $5 buy-in on many poker tables, which can buy you an hour of playing time, win or lose.

Here is a list of the available single table poker tournaments you can play right now at some great online poker rooms:

Single table tournaments are available all day at Party Poker. Unlike most poker rooms, Party Poker allows you to play tournaments for Stud games and Omaha as well, something that some players will appreciate. (Omaha and Stud tournaments are still not very popular however.)

  • Buy-ins range from $5+1 to $200+15
  • Texas Hold'em, Omaha, and 7 Card Stud single table tournaments available.
Pacific Poker is operated by Casino On Net, so the customer support and reliability are great. There isn't the best diversity for tournaments however, although there are low $2.50 buy-ins for the smaller player.

  • Only Limit Texas Hold'em games are available in single player tournaments.
  • Buy-ins from $2.50+0.25 to $100+9.
True Poker is not one of the most popular poker destinations, but they do have a good following for Texas Hold'em games and arguably the best looking software available. They offer a range of buy-ins for single table tournaments, but only No-Limit Holdem Games and Pot-Limit Omaha tournaments. Why? I'm not sure, but if you're looking for fixed-limits tourney's this isn't the place for you. Since they have fewer players than many other poker rooms, I don't advice you try True Poker for Omaha first either.

  • Buy-ins from $6+1 to $50+4.
  • No Limit Texas Hold'em and Pot-Limit Omaha tournaments available.
Prima Poker
Prima poker is not a single poker room, it's both a brand of software and a poker network, comprised of a number of casinos who share the same tables and therefore players as well. It's my personal favorite for tournaments, as they offer both 10 person and 5 person single table games, and it's never a long wait to fill up a table because of the large player base a poker network creates.

At the same time, Prima Poker Rooms only offer Texas Hold'em poker tournaments, so this isn't the place for you if you're looking for Omaha or Stud competitions. I recommend Golden Tiger Poker if you're looking for a Prima Poker room.

  • Buy-ins from $2+0.50 to $100+9
  • 5 and 10 person tables
  • No limit, pot limit, and table limit
Poker Room has really come a long way, with improved software and a variety of new options, including Texas Hold'em available on mobile phone devices! It's definitely one of the bigger rooms around, and offers a no-download option that's mac and Linux friendly.

  • Buy-ins from $5+1-$500+50
  • Texas Hold'em tournaments only.
