World Poker Tour Announces Return Of Brunson Poker Champtionship To Bellagio
WORLD POKER TOUR™ (WPT) announced today the return of the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship to Bellagio in Las Vegas, October 18-21. The tournament was created by the WPT to pay tribute to Brunson, who remains one of the most venerable names in poker with five decades of experience at the table. “Texas Dolly” captured the first of his nine World Champion bracelets in 1976 and his first WPT win at the Season III Legends of Poker tournament at the Bicycle Casino.
Carlos “The Matador” Mortensen will return to defend his title and take a chance at adding to the $1,000,000 he pocketed in his second career WPT Final Table appearance. Mortenson, a World Series champion, also made the Final Table in the first WPT event at the Borgata in Atlantic City.
Last year’s Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship attracted 312 players for a total prize pool of $3,026,400. The inaugural event drew amateur and professional players alike, including Gus Hansen, Phil Laak, Phil Ivey, Annie Duke and the star of his namesake tournament – Doyle Brunson.
The WORLD POKER TOUR builds momentum as it continues into Season IV. Altogether the WPT has awarded more than $100 million cumulatively through its first three years. It is estimated the prize pool just for Season IV could reach $90 to $100 million at the current rate of expansion.
